YEL Members Have Opportunity to Serve

As many of you have heard and read, the City of Fort Smith is undergoing quite a few changes within its Board of Directors and city administrative personnel. While this is a difficult time for our city, YEL also believes that this is an opportunity for young leaders to step up and make a positive contribution to our city by actively engaging in city politics, including running for office. We hope that many young professionals in our city take this less-than-ideal situation to create something positive: an opportunity to put our mission where our mouth is.

Please continue to check this site for information about filing periods, campaigning, and election information.

Y.E.L. Members in the race!

Let me first say how proud I am of Travis Stephens and his impact on Y.E.L. and for him taking advantage of this opportunity to run for the City's Board of Directors Ward No.1

As a life-long Fort Smith resident, I know and love this community. I want to put my knowledge and passion to work for you. I have worked within the community in various capacities throughout the years--mentoring, promoting literacy, assisting in our public schools, and facilitating diversity initiatives like our Juneteenth celebration. The Ward Two directorship offers me the opportunity to serve on a broader level.

For me, good city governance begins with inclusion--making every citizen of our city feel valued and earning every citizen's trust. Representing the interests of Ward Two is important. Serving the city as a whole is even more important. With sound leadership, the possibilities are unlimited. Together, we can move our city to new heights.

While Travis and I seek the support of Ward No.1 & Ward No.2 residents in the upcoming special election on April 8th, I also ask all Fort Smithians for their vote of confidence and a commitment to get involved. Help elevate our city. Work with me for a brighter future. Join me in this quest to make life even more worth living in Fort Smith.

Opportunity to serve

There are now 2 vacated City Director positions up for grabs and I've heard there's potential for a 3rd. In addition to the special election which will be held in a couple of months the 4 Ward seats will be up for re-election in November. Talk about opportunity to take things in a new direction. What we need is for some YEL members to throw their hats in the ring and make a run.

If nothing else it will generate some excitement and hopefully capture the attention of the younger generation.

So I pose this question: What do YEL members want to see?  What kind of issues do the young professionals of our community care about? What will get people excited enough to go to the polls?

(You might be inclined to point out that that's 3 questions and not just 1 but before you do let me just say that really it's the same question posed 3 different ways).

Opportunity

I'll be posting information next week about how to file for the open seats.  Plus, don't forget about the ward seats being up for election in November.
