One Day Left

Had an outstanding weekend on the campaign trail. Knocked on doors for about 6 hours on Saturday and another 3 on Sunday. I'd love to go into detail about all the different people I've met but it would take forever. Some just want you to give them your flyer and move on and others want you to come inside and chat for an hour. I will say the people that have already made up their mind to vote for my opponent get extremely nervous around me. I guess they know I'll change their minds if they allow the conversation to continue for too long. One lady who had my opponent's sign in her yard was out getting the mail and saw me coming. She pretty much sprinted back inside her house and when I knocked she wouldn't answer. I love it!

In additon to walking this weekend we also managed to pick up the Times Record endorsement. http://www.swtimes.com/articles/2008/04/07/how_we_see_it/opinion02.txt

Friday afternoon I cut a radio ad that will run today and tomorrow on ESPN 96.3, KISR 93.7, KTCS 99.9 and Spirit 106.3. KISR is even translating it into Spanish to be played on their LaRaza station. Who's the open minded and progressive candidate that reaches out to all sides? Yeah that's right. I couldn't embed it here but you can go to my website www.friendsoftravis.com and hear it (the English version).

If we don't win it certainly won't be due to a lack of effort. It's definitely an uphill climb given the demographics of the Ward as it's mostly a mature, older demographic. And of course my opponent is a retiree. Plus there has been a HUGE negative undertow that has been campaining against us spreading lies as best they can. They are a well organized and highly calculated group. I have discovered the "hate" mail in the letters to the editor are anything but random. From day one my campaign was an effort to get young people more involved in city leadership and the opposition has tried to paint a picture of old regimes running our campaign. Even though everyone on my campaign team is a 30 something or younger. We'll find out who did a better job of getting their message out to the voters tomorrow.

Go Vote!
