The Westerners...
...is one of several reenactor groups. These guys are associated with the National Historic Site. Sam Trisler is a Park Ranger there, and his folks are heavily involved in the organization. That might be a great place to start. Sam might be willing to provide someone with gear and he might even be willing to BE the mascot, or have someone serve as such.
