Just got back from the Ricky Skaggs Concert at the Harry E Kelly Park

Thanks COX for sponsoring a great show! Ricky has played in the area quite a bit. Thanks to him a well.

Parking blew inwardly, but it was a great show.

Old Timer's Festival in Historic Van Buren will Be Better than Has Been.. REALLY!

Greater Regional Initiative Debacle...

Is it dead yet? Poke at it a little, and see if it moves... Michael Tilley wrote in this Sunday's paper, in a twisted way, that Ivy Owen, the new Director of the Fort Chaffee Public Trust, was driving for economic development in a fashion that could transform our region. Michael had the audacity to say "One thing is that these folks with big ideas burn out or get burned out. We HAD a chamber just a few years ago talking crazy stuff about manufacturing not being the way of the future and promising a new kind of leadership in terms of economic development. Thankfully, that didn't last long." Really? Um.. I want to meet this Ivy Owen. Sounds like my kinda leader.

Van Buren To Require Contractors to obtain Permits

As Fort Smith has done for some time, as of Monday following this post, Van Buren will require all contrators to obtain permits to perform work within the city. This is a great tool for homeowners, as it will verify the contrators' license, insurance and validity. In other words, if you have a contractor knocking on your door offering repairs from the storm, be sure they get a permit prior to starting the job. If they don't- look for the fish, as something will start to stink.

American Flags for Non-Profits

As a Woodmen of the World Field Life Insurance Society Representative, I'm pleased to announce the availability of high quality American Flags;(any size-up to 5'X8'- most in this area are 3'X5' or 4'X6'). These Flags are available at no cost to non-profits, with 'no strings attached', as a way of giving back to our community. I am happy to continue this tradition which has been going on for many years.

(did you see the Amercian Flag on the front page of the Times Record on Wednesday for the Van Buren Library?)

We offer scholarships to kids excelling in American History-

We offer plaques for recognition to any Police Officer, Firefighter or ordinary citizen who goes above and beyond in an act of heroism-
