About Me

As the chair of the YEL Membership Council, I'm looking for anyone who wants to get involved in meeting the members of YEL and recruiting new members.  Not only will you meet the new membership, you'll also get a free YEL t-shirt.  Maggie Lewis is the co-chair of the Membership Council.  If you're interested in joining our council, drop one of us an e-mail.

As a YEL member, here's my background information. I grew up in Fort Smith, left for college and law school at the University of Kansas and returned to work at Warner, Smith & Harris in Fort Smith and start a family.  My wife, Erin, and I met at college and were married in 2001. We have one child, and have another on the way, a dog and a cat.  As a lawyer, I focus on corporate litigation and transactions for small to large businesses.  Outside of work, I'm either hanging out with my wife and child, doing projects around the house, playing golf or trying to exterminate moles and gophers from my yard.

Social Event Political Style

Travis Stephens needs our support. As you all know he is running for the City Director Ward 1 seat. It is shaping up to be a very tough race as we all know how Fort Smith typically tends to lean in the direction of the older demographic and his opponent is a retiree so Travis is going to need all the help he can get.

Even if you don't live in Ward 1 and you can't vote you can still help Travis in his quest to bring some young professionalism to the City Board of Directors.

Paintball blog entry

I previously posted this as a "non-YEL event", but couldn't figure out how to update that post to add a WEATHER disclaimer.  For all those interested, at least 3 YEL members now (Jay Hansen, Travis Lea and myself) and about 5 other people will be going to All American Paintball in Charleston on March 8 at 9 a.m.  I've learned there is a group of 20 and a group of 10 also attending, so we won't just be staring at each other on Saturday.

Back to the casino issue

I came upon this blog when its author -J.D. Williams (owner of You Name It here in Fort Smith)-alerted me to its existence.  It has an interesting take that I think most YEL members would be interested in...which is, how do we develop the quality of place that our community is seeking to enhance?  There are entries that discuss the casino issue, as well as other in-depth musings.
